~~~*~~~ New yarn for my stash...
I have wanted to try Evilla for a while and now I finally can. When I first held this yarn I almost got knocked to the ground of the smell... did anyone say barn? ...but now the smell has started to grow on me...and I think I actually can knit with this. I don't know exactly what to knit from it yet, but I'm thinking about a shawl. Oh..and before I can start on this yarn I have to finish the vest, the top and the sweater currently on my needles. Pictures of the progress will be here soon :P ~~~*~~~ A lovely Saturday... Starting some years ago - me and some other knitaholics meet during the summer to knit outside somewhere... usually in *Gamlebyen* (translated the old town)... a fortified part of Fredrikstad. Silja started the whole thing and then we just kept on having out annual summer gatherings.
On my way there I had to take a ferry...lovely colors, right? I'm going to the place you can see outside the window...and that is dirt btw - not raindrops.
Almost there...I pretended to be a tourist here...taking lots of pictures...
Mind you... from one side to the other it only takes a minute or so.. :P
Being here is like stepping back in time.
Every saturday there is an outside fair here...and people can sell used stuff...or stuff they have made. I have been selling stuff here a few times..(I wonder where those old pictures have gone?)
Had a quick peek on some of the tables and found a few things to buy. I always do.
Lots of not-so-nice-stuff there as well... but as they say...One mans garbage another mans treasure.
Oh...are you looking for pictures of the people attending? They sit here...ehrm...under the picture... ~~~*~~~ I was given an award...
Titom has given me an award and thus made my weekend a bit brighter... Who cares about the rain outside when you can be given an award just for bringing back life to a somewhat dead blog? Thank you so much! But the next part of this award-thingy is a bit harder then recieving... I have to pass it on... and by my choice ALL on my list - and then some - should get it..
Well... what about:
~~~*~~~ Pop-pop-pop...pop till you stop...
I got myself a popcorn machine today...We L.O.V.E popcorn and I used to pop it in a kettle...but from now on we can have more fun while popping. (I just added the vest to the picture so you could see the progress...but I have to admit; I have been a bit busy doing other stuff then knitting on my vest)
We had to try it right away of course...and since we are so easy to please we had loads of fun watching the popcorn pop. The boys declared that it was *just like the carnival*...and next that they want to pop popcorn each day all summer. We'll have to see about that though... ~~~*~~~ Smoothie with a spoon and some progress on the shawl
I picked strawberries in the garden yesterday and stuck them right in the freezer...and today I took them out of the freezer and into my smoothie blender. I can only say - jummy! No sugar added...just plain strawberries...heavenly! And even though it seems like I'm only paying attention to the vest I'm knitting...there is actually progress on the shawl as well... I'm knitting some rows now and then...just to prevent it from being an ufo. As soon as the vest is done I'll try to finish the shawl..I think... unless something else steals my fingers away from the needles... ~~~*~~~ Flower power - stitch markers...
I made some stitch markers today. I use these to mark the beginning of the rounds when I knit. Making the stitch markers was easy enough - taking the picture was a whole chapter of its own... the light is sooo glooming and the colors are way different then they really are. This picture was the only one to somewhat show the right color. Bento time...
: cottage cheese pancakes, boiled eggs, tuna salad, cucumbers and tomatoes. ~~~*~~~ Another picture of the progress...
Are you tired of this vest yet? Well, I'm not...so here comes another update... I have devided the work into front and back...and have started on the back. This is the fun part...getting less stitches and seeing the vest taking form... I just have to knit another row.. and another...and another... Hard to put it down... but need to make some dinner for the kids... ~~~*~~~ Welcome to the world...
My friend Kristin finally got to meet her *little* baby. He was born on Monday 23th of june and is one of the most beautiful babies out there... sharing the top places with my own three sons of course ... and I'm not just saying that because I am a *self declared aunt*...but because he really is. :P ...and just look at those feet btw. Aren't they so cute and small? Being just ONE day old and have such cute toes...life is surely a miracle! ~~~*~~~ Cupboard update...
You didn't think that my little cupboard would stay that well-sorted out for long did you? A small trip to Sweden and you get this result after.
~~~*~~~ More progress
I have started on the next pair of stripes on my vest and have about ten more cm to knit before I devide it into front and back. ~~~*~~~ A small sunday fair...
We drove past a small fair on the way home and just had to stop to check it out...and look what I found! Two sweet mushrooms. They are just under 7 cm tall and soooo sweet. Don't you just love mushrooms? ~~~*~~~ Some progress...
I had some knitting time visiting my MiL and FiL on saturday. It takes some time to drive up to where they live and since hubby drives I get to knit. In the afternoon/evening we visitet my BiL and SiL...and of course I could knit there too... ~~~*~~~ Another knitting project...
This book is a *must have book*. I have several things I want to knit from it...and everything for me... The colours of the skiens wouldn't surprise anyone by now... I am a HP fan on my neck..and I guess I always will be...I might wear this vest in November...*counting the days* Project #1...
First out is this vest. I'll start of with some cheep wool from my stash, and if I like the way it turnes out I'll knit another with some other yarn. The vest should be easy enough to knit... I'll drop the pattern thingy on the front and just do ribbing all the way. And - as I always do - I have already done some changes ... instead of knitting this vest in two pieces as the pattern tells you to - I do the front and back in one piece. It is just so much easier and gives a better result in the end product...or at least I think so.. I have never really understood the point of knitting front and back seperate and then sewing them together in the end. If you can give me ONE good reason for doing so I'll might try. ;)
Time for a Bento:
: green salad, cucumbers, slices of tomato, babybell cheese, boiled eggs, potato salad and spiced minced meat. ~~~*~~~ Tea time...
..or rather - how to stain fabric with tea...aka making the fabric look older and used. You start of with a white fabric, boiling hot water and some regular, dark tea.
Soak the fabric in the water and add the tea bags. I used 10 bags for this one. The more bags - the more color. Leave the fabric in the tea for a while so that the color sticks.
Hang to dry...and repeat it wanted. Sometimes you don't get the right effekt the first time.
There are more ways to do this... I do either this - or spray with dark tea from a spray can. When you do the latter you get more defined stains. I have a plan for this fabric...and will hopefully get started already tomorrow. ~~~*~~~ The day before the summer starts...
Tomorrow it is the last day of school for my kids...and we are sooo looking forward to it. Next fall I'll have three kids in school...where did the time go? Wheren't they all just born? It will be strange not being home with children, but I have no doubt I'll find something else to make my days go by. I was asked to bring a cake for tonights event at school and decided to bake my *vanilla spunge cake*...it is very good and the kids love it. It tastes like sweet muffins and is sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar... Yum!
The recipe you say? But why - of course... here it is:
I'm still knitting on my shawl...nothing new there. Have over 200 stitches now... and guess I'll have over 400 by the time I'm done... in other words - a few more stitches to knit. ~~~*~~~ Murphys law...
...you can never buy just one thing at IKEA... or at least - I can't. Me and the boys spent some hours at IKEA today, and found lots of sweet and useful stuff to buy. Do you see the rat in the bag? Let me introduce Scabbus! He is our new house pet. He lives in the cupboard under the stairs. Where there is food there should always be a rat, right? As long as it is stuffed, that is. I bought some new Bento stuff as well... you'll see it eventually. It is intended for the fall, but I guess I can't wait that long before I start using it...and new stuff calls for new bags to carry it in - so I'll have to get out my sewing machine again. I did some knitting on the shawl, but it is raining cats and dogs outside. Not the best light for taking pictures.
A taco Bento...well sort of...
: chinese cabbage, red onion, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, minced meat, nachos and laughing cow cheese cubes.
~~~*~~~ As promised...
I'm knitting a shawl in Kauni these days...starting at the neck... easy summer knit. Love the colours and can't wait to use it. Don't know yet how I'll finish the shawl, but I'm thinking of a sort of ruffle.
We picked strawberries in our garden today - this seasons first. In total we got 18 jummy berries...and by the looks of it we'll have lots of berries this summer.
Todays Bento:
: mixed salad, hamburgers, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, bacon crisps and a small chocolate.
~~~*~~~ How to make life a bit happier...
You take a small cupboard under the stairs, clean out all the stuff you have tucked in there and start to paint...
When the painting is done you put up some shelves and start to organize the stuff you need to have in there...
To top it all up you buy some new baskets and organize all the chocolate, cake mix and other *need to be in the house* stuff...and blissful joy - the best little room in the house.
Another Bento:
: green salad, slices of turkey, cherry tomatoes, teddybear shaped crackers, cauliflower salad and a small chocolate.
Somehow I have totally forgot to take pictures of my knitting...but I will tomorrow...It is a shawl in Kauni. I love it! ~~~*~~~ Time for a change...
Starting fresh, new beginnings, this and that, so on and so forth... I wanted to do something new with my blog, but I'm not quite sure how it will turn out in the end... you might call this a *work in progress*. One of the new things is that I have changed the language to English. Another thing is that the pictures are no longer clickable - unless the text tells you they are. But like I said - work in progress...stay tuned! But what have I been up to lately?
Warm weather calls for days on the beach.
I have made something to use when I want to carry my Bento's around with me...and speaking of Bento's - I have made a few since the last time I showed some...
1: red salad with red onion, chicken wings, pickled cucumber, star shaped crackers and a small chocolate.
I plan on making a whole page/gallery of my Bento's...and even some recipes on the things I make for my Bento's. |
